Puppy Preschool is designed to facilitate socialization, address normal puppy behaviors, and prevent the development of behavior problems. The primary focus of Puppy Preschool is exposure to people, novelty and working around other dogs. This class is designed to set you and your puppy up for success with housetraining, enrichment activities, communication with one another and life skills such as leash walking, coming when called, etc. While Puppy Preschool addresses problematic puppy behaviors and some manners, the follow-up course Puppy Kindergarten is focused on manners and life skills.
Social time for Puppy Preschool is for puppies who show an interest in play and can be well-matched with an appropriate puppy. Our focus is for your puppy is to be calm and easily able to focus back with you in the presence of other puppies so playtime may not be part of your puppy’s classroom experience. We carefully make social interaction decisions based on the puppies we have in class.
When registering, please choose the start date for your puppy based on the class availability which is visible on the calendar. Each class is listed for 5 weeks. If your puppy is age and vaccine eligible for all 5 weeks you must register for all five weeks. Please only prorate the class if your puppy is 12 weeks or older. Also, make sure your puppy has received their first vaccine at least 10 days prior to the start date and a negative fecal test result.
Class Instructor: Kim Silver
Class Length: Five classroom sessions. You may attend for fewer weeks if your puppy will exceed the age limit before the five weeks are completed, see requirements for additional details. We will only have a puppy preschool class when we have three puppies for a class. If you do not see dates for a class below, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we may place your puppy on a waitlist for class.
What to Bring to Class:
- A mat that your puppy can comfortably lay on during downtimes, such as a bath rug or yoga mat.
- Your dog is required to wear either a harness or flat collar and a 4-6 ft. leash to class. We would like to note that we do not allow choke, prong, electronic collars or retractable leashes in class.
- Please bring lots of tasty treats.
Semi-Private Puppy Lessons are also available by request. Semi-private puppy lessons are customized lessons for you and up to two other puppies. Please contact Kim at email@example.com to request semi-private lessons.
Requirements: Preschool is available to puppies that are 8-16 weeks of age who are not yet fully vaccinated. If your puppy is at least 16 weeks of age and fully vaccinated we suggest you enroll in puppy kindergarten (age range for puppy kindergarten is 4-7months). Your puppy can start preschool at least 10 days after his/her first vaccine and must have a negative fecal test result from your veterinarian. NOTE: Vet records MUST BE SUBMITTED 24 hours prior to your class day/time to attend puppy class. You may upload them at registration, scan and email them, take a photo and email them or ask your veterinarian to email the records for you. Vaccine records including negative fecal test results are required and must be submitted in advance.
If your puppy will exceed the age limit before all five weeks of class are completed, you may register for a shorter duration and be prorated for the weeks you can't attend by using one of the following codes: 4WEEK, 3WEEK, 2WEEK or 1WEEK, correlating to how many weeks you can attend. All classes must be taken consecutively.
